Assessing with Respect: Everyday Practices That Meet Students' Social and Emotional Needs
When a student walks into our classroom, we encounter a whole child, not just a label or a number. In this webinar, we will explore ways that teachers can bring students into the assessment process to more equitably communicate learning. When students are our thought partners in planning and doing, class is more engaging and useful. We will (1) discuss the need to build relationships and create learning environments that honor the dignity of students; (2) talk about goal setting, reflection, and self-assessment and how these practices ensure clarity and commitment to learning; and (3) examine how these processes ensure personalized learning to help each child grow based on their needs.
